When African Micro Mills was approached in 2006 to assist with the expansion of a Durban micro milling concern several options were investigated to enable a successful and profitable expansion.
African Micro Mills devised a strategy to distinguish the new venture from other maize production companies by specifically targeting the South African Food and Beverage-related industries. Two distinct and bespoke Agrex maize plants of 3.5 and 3 tons per hour were designed to suit the milling of South African maize and the finished product specifications of the industry.
Their unique product offering includes maize grits of less than 0.7% fat and particle sizing as required. Their specialised maize flours, all treated by a non chemical process to ensure low microbial and bacterial counts, ensured production of virtual zero ratings on total bacterial count including yeast and mould.
Today more than 50% of the plant's output is specifically made for the export market.

World Leading Brewery
In 2005, when one of the world's largest breweries by volume needed to source specialised maize grits, they came to African Micro Mills. The grits, used in the beer brewing process, require a very particular specification, and consistently high product quality is essential. Only a high technology grain milling plant would be suitable.
African Micro Mills was confident that the Agrex maize grits plant was capable of meeting these high standards. For the last 2 years an Agrex grits mill has supplied the brewery with grits for export to their production facilities in Angola, Mozambique, Zambia, Ghana and Vietnam.
The facilitation of this partnership through African Micro Mills ensured a win-win scenario for both brewery and new supplier.
